Service Committee Outreach

Here is a reminder for ongoing outreach projects
sponsored by the Service Committee.

             1.  Please collect small toiletries (soap, toothbrushes, shampoos, combs, etc.)
                  for the Battered Women's Shelter.

             2.  Please bring canned food items for Main Street Mission Food Bank.

             3.  Please look for "season-end sales" on mittens, scarves, winter caps, and lap
blankets; bring all items to the Church and we will store them for the 2011
                  "Cap & Mitten Tree".

Please place these items in the big gold box
in the hallway between the library and the new wing.

Service Committee - Street Kids Project

SERVICE COMMITTEE is asking you to help us feed juveniles living on the streets of Russellville rather than going home to abusive situations.  Controlled distribution of the food by child counselors and probation officers is in place. We know this project is not an ideal or long-term solution.  Intervention that does not result in more harm than good, will be needed; our concern right now is that no child goes hungry, that unsanitary or worse, (illegal) procurement of food is curtailed, and an interface and relationship with these kids is maintained.  So, for the present, we are choosing to respect their confidentiality and low profile concerns. WE KNOW YOU WILL HAVE MORE QUESTIONS!  Please talk with a member of the Service Committee ( Marion Barr, Cheryl Coleman, Cheryl Coffman, Mikel Fuller, Pat Hagemeier, Glenda Knost, Beth Monroe, Judy Murphy, Phillip Rowley, Carol Wilkins ) or speak with John Coleman, Elder, who works with the counseling of children.

WE NEED YOUR ONGOING HELP WITH DONATIONS TO FILL SHOULDER BAGS FOR DISTRIBUTION

Items should be in individual sizes, pre-packaged and should not need refrigeration.  Some items and suggestions are listed below, but the possibilities are much greater than this list.  (Use your heart and your imagination) The start-up items our committee members have donated were purchased at places such as Freds, Dollar General type stores, and Walmart.  Nutritional items would be great but we aren’t too picky about that.

Food items are top priority, but other items are also good ideas.
